Fixing a Suppressed Buy Box on Amazon India
When the Add to Cart button disappears from your own listing, sales stop even though the page still ranks. A suppressed featured offer is almost always fixable within a day if you know the triggers.
- A suppressed Buy Box removes Add to Cart even with no competing seller
- The most common trigger is a price above Amazon's reference price
- Check the featured offer status in Manage Inventory and Pricing Health
- Account health and delivery reliability also gate Buy Box eligibility
The difference between losing and suppressing the Buy Box
Sellers often use one phrase for two very different problems. Losing the Buy Box means another seller on the same listing won the featured offer position and you did not. Suppressing the Buy Box means no one wins it, the Add to Cart button is replaced by a See All Buying Options link, and the customer has to click through to a secondary page to purchase. On a single-seller private label listing, there is no competitor to lose to, so any drop is a suppression, and it can quietly halve conversion because most shoppers never click the extra step.
The frustrating part is that the listing still ranks, still shows in search, and still draws traffic. Your sessions look normal in Business Reports while your unit session percentage collapses. If you only watch revenue you notice late. If you watch conversion rate by ASIN you notice within a day.
Why Amazon suppresses a featured offer
Amazon suppresses the featured offer when it decides the offer is not a good deal for the customer or the seller is not currently trusted to fulfil it well. In India the recurring triggers are a small set.
- Price above the reference price: Amazon compares your current price against recent prices for the same product across the site and off-Amazon signals. Push the price up sharply and the system can decide it is uncompetitive and pull the featured offer.
- List price or MRP mismatch: A your price that is very close to or above the stated list price removes the perceived discount and can suppress the offer.
- Account health dips: A rising order defect rate, late shipment rate, or a policy warning reduces Buy Box eligibility across your catalogue.
- Fulfilment reliability: For seller-fulfilled offers, poor delivery performance or a stockout risk signal can drop eligibility even when FBA competitors would not.
How to confirm it is a suppression
Do not guess. Go to Manage Inventory, add the Featured Offer or Buy Box eligibility column, and check the ASIN. If it reads not eligible or shows no featured offer, the Buy Box is suppressed. Cross-check the Pricing Health and Pricing Dashboard pages, which flag offers priced above Amazon’s reference and often name the competing external price. On the live product page, an incognito view showing See All Buying Options instead of Add to Cart confirms it from the customer side.
Capture the reference price Amazon shows you. That number is the target you have to beat, and it is the single most useful data point in the whole exercise.
The pricing fix, in order
Most suppressions in India are price-driven, so start there before touching anything else.
- Lower your price to at or just below the reference price Amazon displays, then wait a few hours for the system to re-evaluate.
- Correct the list price field. If your MRP or list price is wrong or missing, set it to the genuine MRP so the discount reads correctly.
- Check for a stray external low price. If a marketplace or your own D2C site lists the same product cheaper, Amazon may hold that against you, so align your channel pricing.
- If you use automated repricing, confirm a rule did not push the price up to a ceiling that breached the reference.
Once the price sits at or under the reference, the featured offer usually returns the same day. If it does not, the cause is not price and you move to health.
When it is health, not price
If pricing is clean and the Buy Box is still gone, look at Account Health. A late shipment rate above the threshold, an order defect rate breach, or a valid tracking rate problem will suppress eligibility until the metric recovers. These do not fix in an hour. You have to work the underlying operation, ship on time, upload valid tracking, resolve open A-to-z claims, and let the trailing metric window heal. For FBA sellers, a fulfilment centre stranded or inactive status on the ASIN can also strip the offer, so check for stranded inventory and reactivate.
Preventing the next suppression
Treat Buy Box eligibility as a monitored metric, not a fire drill. Add featured offer status to your weekly catalogue audit and alert on any ASIN that flips to not eligible. Keep list prices accurate at upload so a future price change never crosses an invisible ceiling. Set repricer floors and ceilings against the reference price, not against a guessed competitor number. And keep a channel price map so a discount on your own website never quietly suppresses your Amazon offer. The sellers who almost never lose the featured offer are not lucky, they simply watch the eligibility column that most sellers ignore.
