Yuvraj Singh joins Deepak Sahni’s new venture UN:BLOC

The Healthians founder is building again, and the cricketer who backed him the first time has come in as an investor and founding team member.

The signal
  • Yuvraj Singh joins as investor and founding team member, among the earliest backers.
  • Founded by Deepak Sahni, who previously built at home diagnostics network Healthians.
  • Gurugram based, currently in stealth with the product and business model undisclosed.
  • In early discussions with a select group for a pre-launch round in the coming weeks.

UN:BLOC, a new healthcare venture founded by Deepak Sahni, has onboarded cricketer Yuvraj Singh as an investor and founding team member. The investment amount was not disclosed, though Singh is described as among the earliest backers.

Sahni previously founded Healthians, which grew into one of India’s larger at home diagnostics networks. Singh was an investor in that business too, making this the second venture the two have built together. The Gurugram based company is currently in stealth, with the product and business model not yet revealed, and is in early discussions with a select group for a pre-launch round in the coming weeks.

There is limited operating detail to analyse here, and it is worth being straightforward about that: a stealth company with an undisclosed model is a signal rather than a story.

What the signal contains is a repeat founder in a category he has already built once, raising before there is a product to show. That combination continues to work in Indian consumer health even in a tighter funding environment, and it is a useful reminder of where the real advantage sits. A second time founder is not raising on the idea. They are raising on a demonstrated ability to build distribution in a category where distribution is the hard part.

For first time founders the transferable lesson is less about celebrity capital and more about that: the asset being funded is the operating track record.
