Ads in AI Mode reach India, multiturn only in the US

Google is expanding ads in AI Mode to India and nine other markets. The paid unit carries a Sponsored label. Multiturn ads, which can appear in follow-up queries, are launching in the United States and not here.

The signal
  • Add query length to your Search reporting now, because Google says AI Mode queries run on average three times longer than a traditional Search query.
  • Review your negative keyword lists against long conversational phrasing, since a longer query can match intent you never meant to pay for.
  • Do not plan a multiturn ad format for India, because multiturn ads are launching in the United States and are not part of this India rollout.
  • Hold off on sizing a separate AI Mode budget line, as this report discloses no India rate, floor or minimum for the format.

Google is expanding ads in AI Mode to ten more markets, India among them. The others are Australia, Canada, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom are planned for Q4 2026. Ads shown inside AI Mode are labelled Sponsored.

One distinction matters most for India planning. Multiturn ads, which can appear in follow-up queries within an AI Mode session, are launching in the United States. They are not part of the India rollout. An India brand gets the paid unit inside the answer, not across the back and forth that follows it.

Google states that AI Mode queries average three times the length of traditional Search queries. It also says click-through rates for sponsored and organic product-list items are already similar. One in five AI Mode searches globally uses voice, images or documents. Visual searches have passed 50 billion a month. The Gemini app has reached one billion users. Each of those is a company statement, reported as such.

The backdrop is Alphabet’s third quarter of 2026 as reported. Google advertising revenue was $82.01 billion, up 10.6 per cent. Search and other advertising was $63.35 billion, up 12 per cent. YouTube advertising was $11.21 billion, up 9.2 per cent. Google Cloud was $30.71 billion, more than double a year earlier, which is what carries Alphabet total revenue of $127.58 billion to a 25 per cent rise while advertising grew in the low double digits. Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google and Alphabet, said year on year Search query growth was the highest in five years. That line is the reporter’s paraphrase of Pichai, not a direct quote.

Reading the rollout as a move to monetise conversational search is the reporter’s inference. Google did not frame it that way in the material reported.

No India pricing for AI Mode ads appears in the report. There is no rate, no floor and no minimum. So the practical consequence for an India brand is not a new budget line. It is query length reporting and negative keyword hygiene, before the format carries enough volume to matter.
