Indian startups raised 142 million dollars last week, AI took 65%

Eleven deals across the week, down a third on the week before, and two thirds of the money went to three AI companies. Consumer took what was left.

The signal
  • 142.3 million dollars across 11 deals for the week of 25 to 31 July.
  • Down 32 percent from 209.1 million dollars across 14 deals the previous week.
  • AI took about 92.8 million dollars across three deals, roughly 65 percent of the total.
  • Two D2C ecommerce deals in the week: Sid's Farm at 8.5 million and Truth and Hair at 566,000 dollars.

Indian startups raised 142.3 million dollars across 11 deals in the week to 31 July, down 32 percent from the 209.1 million dollars across 14 deals recorded the previous week.

Freehand led the week with a 75 million dollar round, followed by Arboreal Bioinnovations at 24 million dollars and Smallest.ai at 13 million dollars. AI accounted for roughly 92.8 million dollars across three deals, about 65 percent of everything raised.

Consumer activity was thin by comparison. Two D2C ecommerce companies raised during the week, Sid’s Farm at 8.5 million dollars and Truth and Hair at 566,000 dollars, alongside consumer services company Fixxly at 5.5 million dollars. Omnivore was the only investor to back more than one company in the week, participating in both Arboreal Bioinnovations and Sid’s Farm.

The concentration is the story rather than the weekly total, which is volatile by nature. Three AI deals absorbing two thirds of a week’s capital is consistent with the monthly picture, where AI took just under a third of July’s total.

For a consumer or retail founder the practical implication has not changed. You are raising from a smaller residual pool, against investors who are seeing AI companies with faster apparent growth curves. That raises the evidentiary bar on the things consumer businesses can actually prove: contribution margin, repeat rate and cohort behaviour rather than headline growth.
