5.1 lakh ecommerce complaints in 2025: fulfilment is the fault line

India logged 5.1 lakh complaints against ecommerce and quick commerce platforms on the National Consumer Helpline in 2025. That is a jump of nearly 14 percent over the 4.4 lakh complaints recorded in 2024. The figures came from Minister of State for Consumer Affairs BL Verma in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Flipkart drew the highest count at 1.3 lakh. Amazon followed with 91,248. Meesho logged 29,284, Myntra 25,384 and Netmeds 19,895. Among the quick commerce names, Zepto recorded 5,774, Blinkit 5,102 and Nykaa over 3,400. These are the top platforms named in the reply rather than a full list, so they do not sum to the national total.

The category split is sharper. Non-delivery accounted for 79,818 complaints. Wrong product delivered came in at 75,426. Replacement and refund issues reached 61,056. Defective or damaged goods stood at 60,969. Again, these are the leading categories, not an exhaustive breakdown.

The reply also cited Rs 91 Cr in refunds facilitated. That figure covers April 2025 to June 2026, a 15 month window that does not line up with the calendar 2025 framing of the complaint data. The Central Consumer Protection Authority imposed penalties of Rs 1.1 Cr on 47 platforms.

What sellers should read into this

Look at the four largest categories again. Non-delivery, wrong item, refund delay, damaged goods. None of them is a product quality problem. All four are fulfilment and reverse logistics failures, and every one of them sits on a surface the seller controls or shares with the platform. Brands tend to read a complaint report as a platform problem. Most of that volume starts in a pick face or a packing station.

Pull your own return reason codes for the last two quarters and map them onto these four buckets. If wrong product delivered runs above your category average, the fix is picking accuracy and SKU labelling, not creative. Fix those four before a customer takes the case to a helpline.
