GoKwik and PayU put D2C brands inside ChatGPT
GoKwik and PayU have launched a multi-brand D2C shopping experience running inside ChatGPT, with Hyphen, Beardo and Kilrr live first. Discovery to payment happens in the chat.
- Hyphen, Beardo and Kilrr live first, more GoKwik merchants in phases
- No new integration and no separate listing fee claimed
- Brands keep catalogue, customer and conversion data
- Clean up titles and attributes so retrieval finds you
GoKwik and PayU have put Indian D2C brands inside ChatGPT. The two companies launched what they describe as India’s first multi-brand D2C commerce experience running natively in the assistant, with Hyphen, Beardo and Kilrr live at the start and more GoKwik merchants to follow in phases.
The mechanics are the point. A shopper can ask for something vague, compare options across brands, build a cart, check out and pay without leaving the chat. GoKwik supplies the commerce layer, PayU handles UPI, cards, net banking and wallets. GoKwik says existing merchants need no engineering work and no new integration, pay no separate listing fee, and keep ownership of catalogue, customer and conversion data.
That last clause is the reason to pay attention. The trade every D2C brand makes on a marketplace is reach in exchange for the customer relationship. This is being sold as reach without that trade. Unproven, but structurally different from listing on Amazon or Myntra.
GoKwik chief executive Chirag Taneja put it plainly, saying Indian D2C built itself on the open web and the next chapter will be built inside conversations.
What operators should do now is small and cheap. Clean up product titles, attributes and descriptions so a language model can retrieve you accurately, because the retrieval layer reads structured text, not creative copy. Then decide how you will run the channel when you cannot see the search term that produced the sale. Attribution inside an assistant is thinner than a marketplace search query report, and budget conversations get harder without it.
Payments are the next unlock, with NPCI’s UPI Circle and the RuPay agentic framework named as future rails.
